Weekly JCV's Challenge

Home Learning at Joseph Cash

Parents and children can opt into a 3 tiered approach to home-learning based on how much home-learning matches their needs as a family. All children are required to do at least the bronze level activities but families can opt into more by signing up for silver or gold activities. Every child is given a red home learning folder to keep their learning in.
Home learning tasks will be displayed on classroom doors/ windows and on class blogs.

All children should have bronze level of home- learning – this is the minimum requirement. Teacher’s will send home daily reading book with a red reading diary which should be filled in by parents and adults in school who hear the child read.
Differentiated spelling should be set based on the phonics rule or spelling rules that the children are learning. Common exception words also need to be included for the year group the child is in.
Times table practice based on the current ones the child is learning in school. Younger children may have a counting pattern to learn instead.

At the start of each half term or termly topic the class should decide together on some cross-curricular activities that can be completed at home. This should also include some suggested Science based tasks. When children bring these items in they should form part of the class display linked to the topic. These should be recorded on flipchart paper which is neatly displayed in the class window. A photograph of this should be taken and added to the school website in the home learning section. Children at silver level can then pick from this menu weekly. They also need to complete bronze tasks as well.

Children who opt into gold level also need to complete bronze and silver tasks. In addition to these teachers will provide Maths and English worksheets linked to current or previous learning in class. These will only be given out to children who have returned previous sheets. These need to be differentiated to the ability of the child.
