2GC January Highlights

English

We've had a busy month of learning in 2GC! For English, a mysterious object appeared in school! 

This led to lots of exciting writing, spelling and learning outcomes... 

Maths

In maths, we have been recapping our knowledge of the four operations and  learning about shape and measure. We even created our own shop and used our adding and subtraction skills to become shopkeepers!

Our times tables are also improving as we continue our TTRockstars battle. As it stands, 2GC and 2KA are neck and neck - winning 2/4 battles each!

Safari week

We started off the first week back by receiving a special package from Twycross Zoo containing our own little Humboldt penguin to represent one we had adopted as a class. Sadly this fun week was cut short by our sudden lockdown but we continued with some remote learning and learning in the year 2 bubble in school. We learnt about the characteristics of the penguin, its habitat and its food chain. The children made penguin poems, researched facts about their habitats and made their own penguin models out of recycled materials.

Creative Curriculum

January was the start of our brand new topic called Toy Story.

The children enjoyed comparing old and new toys and then sorting them according to the different materials they were made from. They then became creative by designing their own board games and Lego characters.

Science 

In Science we began our new theme called Animals including humans. The children have been researching their own animals and learning about their offspring, lifecycles and what they need to stay alive and healthy.

PSHE, Healthy Living and Thrive

In January we have been learning about the Importance of family time, caring and sharing and healthy snacks. We have been trying hard to keep fit and be mindful by taking part in dances and yoga at home.

We checked in on SEESAW to see how all the remote learners were coping with being out of school. It was great to find out they were all doing just fine!

RE

In RE we have returned to Judaism and learnt about the Star of David and its importance to Jewish families. We also learnt about the festival of Passover and how it all begins with the special ‘Seder Meal’ where the family remember the story of Moses rescuing the Israelites from slavery in Egypt.

Snow Day

We finally got a snowy day in Coventry. Here we are having lots of fun in the snow...
