2KA January Learning

Despite the fact that January hasn't turned out the way we would have hoped, 2KA have had an amazing month of learning and showed massive resilience as they once again got used to remote learning. I am very proud of each and every one of them!

English

In English we have begun to focus on our new class text The Egg. After getting to know the text, we have thought carefully about George and the Dragon's thoughts and feelings and how we can use interesting adjectives to describe them. We have also practised writing in the first person and past tense to create some brilliant diary entries.

Also in English, we have begun our new spelling programme. The children have done a fantastic job of learning their spellings and completing their remote spelling test every Friday.

Maths

In maths we have revisited our understanding of different addition and subtraction methods, linking our learning to money. Some of the children have created wonderful videos of themselves teaching their toys and family members how to complete column method! The children in 2KA have also worked incredibly hard on improving their times table knowledge and have won two of our TTRS weekly battles!

Creative Curriculum

The children are enjoying our new topic - Toys and despite the switch to remote learning, we have been very busy. The children have asked their grown ups about what their favourite toys were and compared them to their own, exploring the differences between the old and new toys. We have also explored the origins of Lego, designing our own Lego figures and cars. We have linked our Toys topic to our previous science learning on materials and thought carefully about the properties of different materials and what makes them suitable for toys.

RE

In RE, we have been extending our previous learning on Judaism and have found out more about the Star of David and the special celebration Seder meal.

Science

In science we have begun to explore the topic Animals Including Humans and so far have focussed on habitats and what different animals need to stay alive. It has been great to link this to our English learning and the children have particularly enjoyed thinking about what they would need to do in order to look after a pet dragon!

PSHE/Wellbeing

In PSHE, we have had a big focus on wellbeing. The children are checking in with us to share how they are feeling and to let us know if we can help in any way. Our learning has also included taking time to relax through yoga, get active through dance and healthy eating.

Here are some pictures of the amazing learning the children have completed remotely in January.
