3AF - April Learning in Action

Ancient Egypt

During our Ancient Egyptian topic, we learnt all about hieroglyphics and how they were used as a way of communicating. Through research we found that Pharaohs would carve their names in stone so that it would last forever. These were called a Cartouche. We designed, made and evaluated our own Cartouches, which we made using clay.

Science

In Science, Year 3 have been learning about sound. We know that sound is caused by vibrations. We made cup and string phones to test if sound can travel through a solid. We could hear our friends as they spoke in the cup as the vibrations were carried down the string.

One Giant Leap

Year 3 spent four weeks working with Highly Sprung Theatre Company on the One Giant Leap project. We learnt about sound, Ancient Egypt and earthquakes through movement and games. We then went to the Transport Museum to showcase what we had learnt with lots of other schools. We enjoyed performing our work for everyone to watch, even though we were a bit nervous.
