3KA - April Learning in Action

English

During our English lessons, we learned that there are many versions of Cinderella - some of which are more than 100 years old! The Brother's Grimm version was very gruesome and more like a nightmare than a traditional tale! We explored a story called 'Egyptian Cinderella' which shared many similarities with the story we are most familiar with, however, the Cinderella character was actually called Rhodopis.

We used our class book to inspire us to write detailed descriptions of the River Nile and Cinderella, developing our use of adjectives and similes. We also recieved a letter from a Pharaoh and helped him create a wanted poster!

Maths

Our maths topic was handling data. We learned how to read and represent data using tally charts, pictograms and bar graphs. The maths topic was super fun and at times, it didn't really feel like we were doing maths at all!

Science

In science, we continued learning about sound and discovered that sounds are caused by vibrations. The speed of the vibration has an impact on how high or low the sound is. We were amazed to discover that sound can travel through solids and had a great time making string telephones!

One Giant Leap

The children showed incredible Growth Mindset when we took them to the Transport Museum to take part in the showcase for the One Giant Leap project. The children had spent a number of weeks working with The Highly Sprung Theatre Company to explore science through movement and drama. They learned about the layers of the earth, volcanoes, tectonic plates and sound waves, and demonstrated this knowledge through modern dance and drama. The children did themselves proud when they performed in front of children from others schools, parents and teachers.
