4KT's December Learning

Maths

In maths this half term, we’ve been very excited about starting Times Tables Rockstars! We are all working very hard to learn our times tables and related division facts and this is really helping us in our Maths No Problem lessons, where we have started working on multiplication and division! Even better – when we earn lots of coins by doing a great job, we get to buy new outfits and guitars for our avatars! We also completed lots of learning related to addition and subtraction and looked at different methods and resources that would help us to solve problems.

English

We finished our English unit based on Voices in the Park by writing own stories with different points of view. We have been working to improve our grammar by learning about different types of clauses and sentence structures and thinking carefully about how we can up-level our sentences. We tried really hard to meet our cold write targets and then we designed our own book covers for our stories! What do you think?

To help develop our English skills, we have also been doing some debating! We learnt lots of new vocabulary that we can also use in our writing and learnt how to fairly argue a point of view. We worked as a team to discuss issues such as, ‘Should every class have a pet?’ and ‘Should children have to wear school uniform?’ and then nominated speakers to argue our points with the other team. Sometimes we had to think very quickly and on our feet as the other team came back with some rather convincing arguments!

Science

Our Science topic this half term was lots of fun! We continued to learn about Animals including humans and as part of this learnt all about food chains.  We learnt about predators and prey, and even acted out a human food chain (see video). For homework, we all kept a weekly food diary, and then the following week we analysed them and discussed what makes a healthy diet.

RE

In RE, we have been learning all about the importance of the Nativity story in today’s society and at the significance of different religious symbols. We designed and made our own Christmas decorations that represented the Christmas story using lollipop sticks to create a Nativity Scene.

Explorer Morning – Ancient Greeks

In preparation for next half term, we had to compete a ‘Night at the Museum’ challenge! Larry, who works at the museum, had lots of old vases and artefacts and he needed them piecing together. We helped him out by doing this, and then looked carefully at the patterns, pictures and paintings on the vases to try to find out about life in Ancient Greece! Piecing the vases together was tricky but some of the pictures were incredible!

Enterprise Week

Our enterprise week was lots of fun. We visited Coventry market first of all to carry out some market research on the sort of products we wanted to make. We decided on sweet cones and hot chocolate cones decorated as reindeer! We made, advertised and sold our products with a recod sell-out at the fayre in seven minutes! We’ll have to make more next time!

Christmas!

We had a lovely end of term and celebrated with a fantastic Christmas party in our classes – we even made our own place mats and table decorations for when we had our party food! Merry Christmas from 4KT!
