English

In English, we have written a myth. The childre have written about a cyclops, a minotaur, a sea serpent and many more mythological creatures! We spent at least two weeks planning our myth, as well as creating exciting character and setting descriptions.
We are now moving towards our next Hot Write which will be a fantasy story, inspired by Who Let the Gods Out. Miss Dolman is incredibly excited to read the finished stories full of mythological creatures, imagination and some fantastic descriptive techniques!
As well as our writing, we have been focusing on different of grammar including formal language (we learned what ‘social etiquette’ means), fronted adverbials/interesting sentence openers, interesting vocabulary and proof-reading. The children are making good (oops, Miss Dolman isn’t allowed to use ‘good’) excellent progress with their SPaG.

Engage! Tag Rugby

Y
ear 4 have had a special treat this half term. On Wednesday afternoons, we have been learning about the different skills and the rules of tag rugby. We have also learned the important values of tag rugby. These include: integrity, teamwork, respect, discipline and enjoyment.

"I've liked the tag rugby so far because we get to learn more about the sport."

"I have learned to pass backwards. I still need to improve passing it to my teammates."

"I think tag ruby is great because we've learned about a different sport and people come into the school to help us. I need to make sure I am passing to members of my team."

Art

We have improved our drawing, making, designing and constructing skills this half term during our weekly art sessions. In small groups of three, we have been making ancient Greek temples inspired by the Parthenon made for the goddess Athena.

"I enjoyed making the temmples because we tried our hardest and learned to work together."

In addition to their work with Mrs Kaur creating structures, 4RD have also designed their own Greek vases and created them. Miss Dolman is excited to put some of these pieces on display, they are fantastic! Inspired by the story of 'Austin's Butterfly', everyone spent a great deal of time designing their vases and slowly creating a masterpiece. The children showed resilience and did well to never give up!

Maths

After a great deal of multiplication and division (including some tricky formal methods which we had to practice a lot), we looked at line graphs and bar graphs. We had an extremely difficult question where we had to put two lines onto one line graph. It was nearly impossible! However, we used our rulers and our school values to be successful!

Now, we're moving onto fractions!
The children have made a great start looking at hundredths and have continued to show good understanding.

The Day the Joseph Cash Crayons Quit

We have been very busy practicing for our Year 4 school production.
Year 4 have been working incredibly hard during rehearsals and Miss Dolman is confident their singing will be amazing on the day!
Don’t forget to come and see us perform!
