4RD - November Learning in Action

Welcome to 4RD's first blog post on Joseph Cash's brand new website. November has been a very busy but enjoyable month for Year 4.

Super Swimming!

4RD had the chance to refresh their swimming skills earlier this month. We went swimming every day for one week and the children had a fantastic time. The children showed progress in lots of different areas, including swimming on their front, their back and swimming without a noodle! For some, swimming was a new experience and they were quite anxious. However, they called on Brave Bobby to help them persevere and have a go. Success for all!

Miss Dolman was incredibly proud of 4RD and their fantastic behaviour when outside school. They were super representatives for Joseph Cash, and we are even going for an extra dip later this half term. The children can't wait!

WoW!

What a fantastic Wow Week for Year 4.
We carried out market research for a product to sell at the Winter Fayre (6th December 2018, please come along!) and all the children had their chance to design a product based on treat cones, filled with either hot chocolate or sweet treats. The children presented their best ideas to the class for a class vote, ready to produce for the Winter Fayre. As well as their initial design, the children considered a logo for our Year 4 business. There were some fantastic ideas and Miss Dolman even played some Christmas music to try and inspire the children with their wintry designs.

In order to further investigate how small businesses run, all of Year 4 went on an exciting venture down to Coventry Market. They were able to visit different stalls, see how they are set up and what they were selling to the public. I believe there was also a kind man on the fruit and veg stall who offered the children juicy red apples and delicious oranges!

Alongside the sweet treat cones, all of Year 4 tried their hand at making hot chocolate sticks during the week as a trial run for the fayre. After they had all been made and given time to set, the children were able to test their own products during a showing of The Santa Clause on the Friday morning. It was perfect timing: just as the characters in the film tucked into some hot cocoa, the children were stirring the hot chocolate sticks into warm milk and enjoying their own cup of hot chocolate! It was a super way to finish off a fantastic week.

As with every Wow Week, Year 4 were given the chance to camp overnight at school. It was lovely to see some of the children so excited to camp, while others also stayed behind for the twilight sessions. Plenty of fun was had by all, including the first birthday during an overnight camp! Another first: Miss Dolman had never experienced a Joseph Cash Wow Week before and thoroughly enjoyed learning the children's favourite campfire song, Bungalow. Everybody had the chance to toast a marshmallow on the campfire before heading back inside for a craft activity. It's amazing what you can make with leaves, lollipop sticks and some wool! The children were so proud of their designs that they participated in a craft catwalk, showing off their designs to the enthusiastic audience.

What more can we say apart from...we can't wait for the next Wow Week!
