6RS January learning

A very belated happy new year to your all! What a strange start to the year! Although most of us are not at school, we have been busy doing lots of exciting learning at home.

English

For English, we have been reading stories about ‘Beowulf’, an Anglo- Saxon warrior.

We have used descriptive language to describe settings and characters linked to the text.

We have also started to write our own legend. We cannot wait to share these with your once these are finished. Here are a few snippets of what we have written so far.

Maths

For Maths, we have continued to build our knowledge of the four operations. We have applied our skills to solve multi-step word problems. We have also had fun applying our skills to solve mathematical investigations.

Creative Curriculum

This term we started our new topic ‘Vicious Vikings’. We started learning about the Anglo-Saxons and why they came to Britain. We then moved to the Vikings and explore the reasons as to why they followed the Anglo-Saxons to Britain. We had great fun learning about the Anglo-Saxon homes and making our Anglo-Saxon house.

Science

In science we started our new topic of ‘Living things and their habitats’. We have learnt how different species are classified and the reason behind classification.

No screen time activities

On Fridays, and the weekends, children are encouraged to do learning which does not involve looking at a screen. The children have had great fun doing these activities and I have been amazed at how creative they are. On Fridays, we are doing activities which take us outside such as ‘The Big, British Bird Watch’. We have observed what which birds we can see outside and researched them. We presented our results as a double page spread.
