6RS July Learning in Action

English

We finished reading our final text Kensuke’s Kingdom this month and wrote in the style of Michael Morpurgo. We also used our comprehension skills to discuss and debate the themes in the story, such as debating the pros and cons of living on a desert island. We also wrote our own memories to share for our leaver’s assembly.

Maths

This month we used our Maths skills to support our Year 6 Enterprise Project – Ice Cream Selling. The proceeds of all our profits went to the school and helped us raise money for our end of year trip to West Midland’s Safari Park.

We calculated that if we charged 80p per ice-cream and sold x60 a time, we could make almost £50 every day. So, by the end of the 2 week period we managed to raise over £500! Thank you to everyone who bought an ice cream from us!

Creative Curriculum

This month we continued our topic as ‘Geographers’ learning about World War II. We looked at the Occupation of Europe and how Hitler tried to take control. We used our map-reading skills to plot Hitler’s tactical moves. We also learned about life in Britain and the role of Winston Churchill, as well as life in Germany and the Separation of the Jews. We watched ‘The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas’ in order to understand the Holocaust better and we produced some super art work when reflecting on this.

End of year production

This month we performed our end of year production: ‘Shakespeare Rocks’! We had such good fun sharing our talents with the rest of the school.

SATs
