6RS June Learning in Action

English

We have written our Viking myths using our class text Anglo Saxon Boy for inspiration.

We also wrote our own bedtime stories for Nursery and Reception as part of our school’s ‘Pajamara Day’ to raise money for the National Book Trust.

Reception and Nursery loved them (and so did we!)

 Maths

We carried out lots of investigations around reasoning and number. We have also been using our ratio around proportion skills as part of our World War II topic. We converted units and measure for this.

Science

We have been learning about Evolution and Adaptation. We conducted an investigation called ‘Battle of the Beaks’ to help us understand how animals adapt for survival. We also learned about Charles Darwin and debated about whether we agreed or disagreed with his findings. We also wrote some fantastic letters where were applied to become a paleontologist.

Creative Curriculum

This month we began our topic as ‘Geographers’ learning about World War II. We learned the difference between the Town and Country; we studied areas of the UK on the map and we conducted an exciting investigation called ‘Operation Pied Piper’ where we had to use our Geography skills to get Evacuees to safety.

WOW Week

This month we have visited Holdenby House to learn all about World War II; we complete an obstacle assault course called Ultim8 Warrior and we camped overnight.

Production

It will be ‘Lights, Camera and Action’ soon! We have been busy practicing and preparing for our end of year production: ‘Shakespeare Rocks’! We decided to produce this play because not only did we love reading Macbeth, we also have been rocking-out this year in our whole school music assemblies as well as for our Times table Rockstars competitions – it just made sense!
