6RS March learning

English

We started our new text, Shakespeare’s ‘Macbeth’. Since we started reading the text, we have been completely captivated by this story of greed and treason. We have used the ideas from the text to write our own letter from Macbeth to Lady Macbeth, sharing his experience of encountering the three witches on the heath. We also had a discussion about who is responsible for the death of Duncan. Believe it or not, most of us thought that Lady Macbeth was responsible! We have also revisited descriptive language and wrote a description of the witches.

Maths

This term, we have revisited fractions, decimals and percentages. We have also learnt how to find fractions of amounts and  percentages of amounts. We have learnt about ratio and how we can scale amounts up and down. In addition to this, we have learnt about area and perimeter and applied our knowledge to solve word problems.

Science

We have continued to learn about classification and learnt about the extraordinary work of Carl Linnaeus. We learnt about how to use his classification model to classify different species. In addition to this, we learnt the Latin names of some of the everyday plants that we see outside.

Creative Curriculum - Vicious Vikings

We have continued with our topic of ‘Vicious Vikings’. We learnt about the Vikings first attack which was at Lindisfarne . We learnt how they savagely slaughtered the monks and pillaged all the treasure. We wrote a newspaper report from the perspective of an Anglo-Saxon living on the island at the time of the attack. As well as this, we learnt about the two great Anglo-Saxon kings: Alfred the Great and Edward the Confessor. We used contrastive and comparative conjunctions to compare these prominent characters of history.

PSHE/RSE

In PSHE, we have learnt about drugs and the effect that drugs have on our bodies. We have also looked at illegal and legal drugs and discussed their side effects. We have also started our relationships part of PSHE and looked at a book called ‘Leaf’. Through exploring the book, we learnt about discrimination and how not to discriminate others all because they may look different. We also looked at a book called ‘Dreams of freedom’ which is a book produced by amnesty international. The book taught us about human rights and uses quotes from famous people who have worked hard to fight for their rights. All the lessons on relationship, help teach us about the Equality Act and how it protects us from discrimination.
