6RS May learning

We have had a busy month in 6RS and have enjoyed starting a new class text and new creative curriculum topics.

English

In English, we have used the story of Frankenstein to inspire our writing in the horror genre. We practised writing reports, composing informative fact files about werewolves, vampires and other monsters. We have continued the horror theme, writing scary stories packed with suspense!

Maths

In maths, we have built our number skills. We have been working on fractions and percentages, representing them in pie charts. We have been working on multiplication and division and using these operations to answer complex word problems.

RE

We have been working on our RE and history topic, too, Early Islamic Civilisation. We have learnt about the life of the Prophet Muhammad and the early Caliphs, as well as scholarship and trade in Baghdad at the height of the Islamic Golden Age.

 Geography

‘Come Away With Me’ is our geography topic this month. We started by looking at important geographical features in the UK, including researching famous landmarks, before travelling further afield to the continents of the world. We have learnt about lines of latitude and longitude and how these are used to locate points on the globe.

Art

In art, we enjoyed learning about graffiti art and Banksy’s stenciled street art. We studied his techniques, and tried it out ourselves, making our own stencils as trying out the effects of different types of paper.

Science

In science, we have been working on evolution and adaptation. We started learning about how fossils are made, including making our own fossil imprints in clay and later ‘excavating’ these to see how a fossil hunter like Mary Anning would make their discoveries. We continued our learning by looking at how plants and animals adapt to their environments and why this is essential to their survival.
