6TS March 2021

We have loved welcoming the children back into school this month and have been really impressed at how quickly they have settled back into class.

English

In English we have started our new text, Macbeth, which the class have really enjoyed. They have learned a lot about the characters and the setting of Scotland as well as the wider context of life would have been like during this period.

As the story unfolded, we saw how the witches' prophecy set the tone for Macbeth's demise and descent into his treasonous acts. They loved discussing who was responsible for King's Duncan's murder; the Witches, Lady Macbeth or Macbeth himself. Then we debated their points and voted on who they felt was responsible which they decided was Lady Macbeth, although some argued that it was Macbeth as he the King's blood on his hands.

Maths

In maths we have covered a range of topics since we have returned to school and we have been really impressed with how quickly the class have picked up the areas of new learning.

We have revisited fractions, decimals and percentages. We have also learnt how to find fractions of amounts and  percentages of amounts. We have learnt about ratio and how we can scale amounts up and down. In addition to this, we have learnt about area and perimeter and applied our knowledge to solve word problems.

Science

We have continued to learn about classification and learnt about the extraordinary work of Carl Linnaeus. We learnt about how to use his classification model to classify different species. In addition to this, we learnt the Latin names of some of the everyday plants that we see outside.

Creative Curriculum

We started our return to school with a theme week, JC on Safari, where the children learned all about our adopted Chimpanzee. We discover the Chimp's natural environment and the threats posed to this through our research and immersion in Now Press Play. We also learned about the artist, Lucienne Rickard, who highlights the plight of many endangered animals through her drawings.
