Fire fighter Fun!

What an exciting week we have had in Reception!

On Monday we were delighted to welcome a team of fire fighters from Foleshill Community Fire Station and their fire engine as special guests during our afternoon learning time.

We split into two groups and had two different sessions that taught us alot about what it take to be a fire fighter. The first group went outside and learnt all about how the fire engine works, and the equipment it can carry.

Some of the fire fighters let us try on their helmets and we all got a turn at shooting water out of the huge hose! Some of us were a little bit cheeky and tried to catch the teachers in the spray. Mrs Johnson's car got a lovely wash! After that we took it in turns to sit in the fire engine. We had to climb up some really big steps to get in!

Inside, we were able to meet some more fire fighters who told us all about the kinds of jobs they do. They showed us their uniform and the special protective gear that they have to wear to stop them from getting hurt when they are dealing with emergencies. The clothing felt strange and it was really heavy! Some of us were really brave and thought of questions to ask the fire fighters.

Lily Jayne asked,

Do you have a dog that works with you?

The fire man told us that he doesn't have a dog at the moment but that there are specially trained dogs that work with the fire service. Great question!

After the fire fighters left we talked about other people in the community who help us and thought about what kind of jobs we might like top do when we grow up. Maybe you can ask us at home about what we learned at what we want to be when we grow up!
