March & April learning in Nursery

Week beginning 8th of March

This week we were finally all back together! Our story was Handa's Surprise by Eileen Browne. The children were amazing at remembering the names of the fruit and animals from the story!

We loved doing our Handa's fruit funky fingers activity this week. It was so tricky to pick up the fruit using tweezers at first but by the end of the week we were even sorting the fruit according to colour and how many there were! Nursery kept on going and did not give up.

We also loved seeing our Seesaw learning displayed in the classroom:

"It's my picture of Skyla!" - said Aliza.

"My Going on a Bear Hunt... and here's the grass and the snowstorm woooowooo" said Shanaya.

"I paint the picture in my house" said Max.

It was a lovely way to see all that we accomplished in our homes over lockdown.

Dress up day for Safari week was so much fun!

Week beginning 15th of March

Our second story was Waking Dragons by Jane Yolen. Nursery loved hearing about the dragons getting ready and having their breakfast before flying all the way to Knight School! We had castles in our classroom and pretended to be knights. Some children even chose to make their own shields!

We loved acting out the story of the dragons getting ready!

We even pretended to test out our shields against the kitchen roll dragons that we made!

"The fire coming out of his mouth!" said Max.

"He's breathing fire all over you!" said Eliza.

We also made our own 2D shape castles during get learning time in the Maths Area. It was a helpful and fun way to remember the names of the shapes we were using!

We had a go at standing on one leg as our friends counted all the way to 10! We all had a good go at balancing our bodies.

In maths, we spoke about what 'the same' means and used numicon to understand this.

"Miss Bartczak, this one is the same!" said Phoebe.

"One, two, three, four, five! The same!" said Maryam.

"One, two." George counted and matched two numicon together.

 Week beginning 22 of March

Our story of the week was Underpants Wanderpants by Peter Bently.

We found this story so funny! It was great fun making our own playdough underpant patterns at the Workshop Table.

We even had underpants displayed in our maths area and the children were very good at recognising some of the numbers!

"I found number eleven!" said Shanaya.

Week beginning 29th of March

Our story for the last week of Spring term was Egg by Sue Hendra.

We loved all of the Easter related activities around the classroom. We even had our own Nursery flower shop!

We finished off the week with an Easter egg hunt! All of the children found eggs hidden around the classroom and had a go at making marks on their ticklist of which ones they were able to find. Miss Bartczak was so impressed how well all of the children worked together and helped each other.

Happy Easter everyone!

Week beginning 19th of April

Our first story of the Summer term was The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle.

We have all had a good go at recognising and posting our names! Most children were able to do this even though they have had 2 weeks at home! Amazing job Nursery.

We loved playing the animal sound game during get learning time. Children took it in turns to listen out for the animal sound and press the right picture on our board.

Nursery loved painting this week! They were mixing different paint to see what colour they could make and making butterfly wing prints.

We also started learning a Sound of the Week! This weeks sound was 'm' for mummy, moon, milkshake and money!

Michael Rosen shared his poems with us on Zoom! It was very exciting and the children were very engaged and took part in doing the actions.

We finished off the week by planting some bean seeds. We spoke about how to plant it and look after it. The children put the soil in their pot, made a hole and planted their seeds. We will be looking after these plants for the next few weeks!
