MarvelLous March!

Well this month we have mainly become a bit obsessed with learning  about SCULPTURE! We have learned what a sculpture is and how you can make  sculptures with different materials and how they can be formed. We have made many sculptures ourselves. We started experimenting with play dough, then clay. We have used many different materials such as blocks and glass beads.  We even used big cardboard boxes to make a huge sculpture in the hall that represented class 1NG. We have also learned about a famous artist from Coventry called William Chattaway. He went  to school and studied Art in Coventry, then studied more in London. He now lives in Paris. William Chattaway has donated  his sculptures to the Herbert Art Gallery in the city centre. We are looking forward to seeing these on our next trip. We went on our very first trip on  coach as class 1NG to Warwick University to see some huge sculptures. We go to touch and feel and even climb on the sculptures. They were all very different, a bit like us! We liked the sculpture called 'Let's not be stupid' best because it was enormous and has a funny name.
We also got to make some music on the sculptures.
Anyone can go and take the Sculpture Trail, it is FREE! There are 23 sculptures to look at, we only had time to look at and learn about 4! If you follow this link you can find out more information. Don't forget to pack a picnic.

If you would like to go, you are welcome to borrow our maps. What a great way to spend a day in the Easter holiday. You might bump into Miss Gibbs. She is definitely going to go and look at some more sculptures!
