Maths Day

Mrs Nettey had such a great time teaching (and learning) Maths all day with 4KT. The day started off by a 'Shoot the Sheriff' challenge where the children challenged each other to say the answer to the times table question in the quickest time. We had three champions throughout the day! Well done to Hosnah, Viveka and Lawrence, who answered some really tricky times tables.

The teachers even had-a-go at shooting the answer the quickest too... Who do you think won?

Fortunately, the children went easy on us that day. We were experts at the 2, 5 and 10 X tables :)

After assembly, Mrs Healy set us a question to investigate

Are children's shoe size relative to their height?

The children discussed this in their teams and started to note down their predictions. All of the teams thought definitely not! They were then challenged to note down ideas on how they could test this in the afternoon. Harley's team got straight on the floor and started to take their shoes off to measure how long each person was. When they ran out of shoes, they put a ruler there to mark off the last shoe and reused the shoes again. Great problem solving!

In the afternoon, the children were really excited to test out their predictions. They created tables with each persons name, height and shoe size to compare.

They used a range of resources and strategies to measure these and came to the conclusion that perhaps they were wrong in the morning. Every group shared that the tallest member of their group did have the largest shoe size and the shortest person did have the smallest shoe size! Great investigating Year 4!

The day ended with a celebration of the children's efforts throughout the day. Isa came second in the live final to see who could answer the most times table questions the fastest in 1 minute. Siara won the best dressed Rock Star and Susan won the Growth mindset certificate for showing a positive can-do attitude all day!
