4KT January Learning in Action

Maths

This month we have been extending our learning in maths on multiplication and division and using these skills to solve practical problems. We have found this quite challenging but a great opportunity to work together as a team.

We have also been working hard on Times Tables Rockstars and achieved our first 100%, well done Ricards! We are all looking forward to Times Tables Rockstars day at the end of this week which should be great fun!

English

In English we have started our new class book, Who Let the Gods Out by Maz Evans, which the children are really enjoying. We have started to explore the characters and their thoughts and feelings at different parts of the story which will help us to write our diary entries at the end of this week.

We have also been spending lots of time improving our grammar, sentence structures and range of vocabulary in preparation for our Time to Shine at the end of the month. This will be a great opportunity for the children to show off all their hard work and the great ideas generated from our book from this term.

Science

We have started our new exciting topic of Animals and their Habitats and the children have loved learning new facts about the world of nature. We have classified animals according to a range of criteria on to Venn and Carroll diagrams and ventured out to forest school on a minibeast hunt, which was great fun! We have really enjoyed expanding our knowledge and finding answers to the many questions this topic presents.

Creative Curriculum

Building on our knowledge from the explorer day in December, the class have been discovering more about the innovations of the Ancient Greeks. We have covered many areas already and the children have loved learning about the differences in society and culture across the Ancient Greek world, in particular the city state of Sparta. We have learned the origins of many of the great ideas and inventions which have changed our world and the people who created them.

Arts Week

During arts week we worked as a class to create a giant sea turtle and many small sea turtles from a range of materials. The children learned many new skills with wire, paper mache, mod rock and collage and really enjoyed experimenting with colour and effects. We also learnt a lot about these beautiful creatures and the fragile world they live in as well as discovering more about their life processes.
