6MG Learning in Action

Art and D&T

6MG have been busy sketching, painting and sewing seaweed for the school ‘Under the Sea’ display this month!

Harmaan said: “First we sketched different designs and tried different colour combinations. Then we created different textures using pencil, paint and pastels to create a 3D look to our drawings. After trying several designs, we then used a wool threading technique to make seaweed. Finally, we decorated the seaweed with sequins and sewed patterns.”

See how AMAZING it turned out…

Maths

Our focus this month has been Arithmetic, Fractions, Decimals and Percentages

We have also started Timestable Rockstars! We have been challenged to learn ALL our times tables up to 12 x 12 by February 25th!

Good Luck everybody!

Drama and PSHE

ALL RISE…

Year 6 turned into a Magistrates Court this month with everybody taking part in a mock trial.

After learning about the law from real Magistrates, we then had the chance to act out a real court case!

‘Jamie West’ was on trial for theft and after hearing all the facts from witnesses and being interviewed by the Prosecutor and Defence, we had to decide whether he was guilty or not guilty based on the evidence.

PE

As well as learning basketball in school we have also been taking part in inter-school Rugby and Rowing competitions this month.

Well done to Karanjot, Mamady, Chelsea-Lea, Haaris, Alysha and Amina who won their Rugby matches. Also, a big congratulations to: Jack, Chelsea-Lea, Laycie and Haaris who have been selected to take part in the inter-school rowing competition.

Make sure you see the highlights on our school Twitter page!

English

Double, double toil and trouble…

This month we are learning the story, ‘Macbeth.’ We have been reading the story as a class and writing in role as characters from the play. So far we have written letters, diary entries and newspaper reports.

Creative Curriculum

Vicious Vikings – This term we have begun our topic on Vikings!

In our Computing lessons we have used Purple Mash to compare the different foods that Vikings ate in comparison to what we eat now. In Art, we have created a long ship and used three different mediums to colour it. We also made Viking helmets and swords! For Geography, we have learned the difference between human and physical features by investigating different places in the UK. We are also going to look at how these features have changed since the Anglo Saxon times.
