6RS April learning

English

We have continued to read Shakespeare’s ‘Macbeth’. We used the internet to research Scotland as this is where the story is set. We then used the facts to create a persuasive brochure persuading people to visit Scotland. We are convinced that after reading our texts, you will want to visit Scotland and learn about some of the fascinating places mentioned in story of Macbeth.

Maths

This month, we started to learn about equations and algebra in maths. We also consolidated our learning on equivalent fractions and area of triangles.

Science

We had a great science week in which we explored ‘Engineering in the pandemic’. We started the week off by learning about what engineers do. We then completed a quiz to find out what career would suit us and what qualifications and qualities are needed for the career. We also learnt about viruses and the rate at which they spread. We carried out an investigation and were shocked to learn that it would only take 8 rounds to infect our whole class! In addition to this, we tested which fabric would be best for a face mask and made our very own viruses.

Creative Curriculum - Come fly with me....

We started our geography themed topic called ‘Come away with me’. We started our topic by learning about landmarks and the difference between the UK, Great Britain and the British Isles. We also made our own booklets about some of the famous landmarks of the UK.

PSHE/RSE

In PSHE, we learnt about emotional and mental health. We discussed what emotions we feel when we are happy and how we feel when we are sad. We also discussed depression and how it can affect people of all ages. With regards to mindfulness, we shared ideas on resilience and the benefits of being resilient when facing new challenges.
