6RS February Learning in Action

SCIENCE AFTERNOON

We launched our new topic ‘Evolution and Inheritance’ and learnt some fascinating facts about evolution and how plants and animals have had to adapt to survive. We learnt about the famous scientist ‘Charles Darwin’ and about his ‘theory of the species’. We carried out an experiment to learn about how animals have adapted to their environment to survive.

We had so much fun. I found evolution really interesting.

I really enjoyed learning outside. It was interesting to see which coloured worms we captured the most.

Maths

Our focus this month has been Arithmetic, Fractions, Decimals and Percentages and reasoning.

We have started to look at reasoning questions and learnt how to solve some tricky problems.

When I first heard about ratio I thought it would be really tricky. Once I grasped the method I realised it was not as hard as I thought.

 English

The King is dead!

We wrote newspapers report to share the tragic new – The death of King Duncan.

We applied lots of SPaG features to create some amazing newspaper reports

PSHE

We had some amazing news this month! We received a letter from ‘The Houses of Parliament’ in response to our year 6 petition about the use of palm oil and the need to save the rain forest and its habitants. A big well done to Maryam and Karanjot for writing the letter and organising the school petition.

Art

For Art, we have been making Viking longboats.  We used our sketching skills to draw the boat first and then used collage to add texture and colour to our boats. We then designed our own Viking shields.

I learnt lots about texture of different fabrics and how they can be manipulated to add depth and colour to artwork.
