English

This month we wrote our own traditional stories and changed our main characters – creating our own twist on Snow White. We used lots of great description and even included some similes!

Nadin said – “I liked writing the story because I love Snow White and I think I am improving lots in English”

Nora was so inspired by the story writing work that she even produced her own book! Take a look here:

Here are some of a super writer’s having their Snow-White Selfies…

Christmas Writing

We then wrote our own letters to Santa and sent them off to the big man himself! Fingers crossed we receive our replies back in time.

We also completed lots of grammar tasks about Christmas and wrote an acrostic poem about Christmas. Here is some of our amazing learning:

“Writing a letter to was really exciting and I can’t wait to hear back from him,” said Adam

Phonics

We sat our phonics screening test and all our teachers were really proud of us

“I am so proud of all the children, they are trying so hard in their learning!” said Mrs Giblin

“Children have been trying really hard in their phonics lessons to improve their reading and spelling. Next steps would be to continue to practice your spellings at home,” said Mrs Cooper.  Remember Spelling Shed is a fun way to learn them.

Maths

We have been practicing our multiplication and division this month. Division has been a little tricky, but we have tried lots of different ways to learn this.

We also had a Math's week where we investigated units of measure and then had a class competition – who could make the longest paper chain!

We also (we think) found the smallest apple in the world! Do you agree?

 Creative Curriculum

This month we began a mini Geography topic called - Home and away

We discussed and shared our likes and dislikes of Coventry, drew and wrote about our special places in Coventry and we located and labelled the countries of the United Kingdom and their capital cities. We finished off by finding out where Coventry was and adding it to our map.

We found out that the United Kingdom is an island and talked about the advantages and disadvantages of living on an island.

Science

We finished off this term’s Materials topic by learning about different malleable materials. We sorted some everyday items into malleable and not malleable and explored the malleable material clay to make our own Christmas clay snowmen.

Here are Ali and Renata looking very proud of their finished snowmen or should we say claymen!

 Music, PE and computing

In Music we practiced singing lots of different Christmas songs and performed Away in a Manger as part of our school Virtual Christmas production!

Here is a link so you can sing a long at home with your family.

In PE we completed our Class Championship Competition. Congratulations to Benny and Isla who

who improved the most.

Computing

Our Spelling Shed and TT Rockstars class scores are improving…

Well done to Harley for super a SpellingShed score.

Well done to Kabinaya and Hadya for amazing TT Rockstars scores.

PSHE, Mindfulness, Healthy Living and Thrive.

Here we are learning to work co-operatively as a team – our task was to create a magical bird as a team with everyone having a part to play.

We continued to learn about Healthy eating and our tasks were to make a healthy alphabet or a packed lunch. We then went on to discuss how to care for our teeth.

During Anti- bullying week the children learned that as a united team we can all work together to help prevent bullying in school.

 RE

We began a new topic on Christianity and learnt about the Nativity story by drawing and labelling the main characters and then sequencing key events in the story. As a class we learned and performed Away in a Manger as part of the school Christmas concert.

We studied Christmas traditions and compared these to the Jewish festival of Hanukkah which we learnt about last term.

We finished off this topic by making our own Christingle orange which we labelled to show which each part symbolises for Christians.

Ali was chosen to hold the lit Christingle as he was this week's name in lights child chosen for showing our school values every day.

 Christmas Fun activities and crafts

We learned about lots of festive jobs: What job could you have? Reindeer keeper, toy maker, or you could even tailor Santa's suit.

The children had a lot of fun making their own Santa advent calendars. Each day they had to add another part of his beard.

Here are Poppy and Lacie showing us the start of their advent calendars.

The teachers across school all took turns to read the children a story for each day of December.

Here are the staff from 2GC filming their story to share. After a few false starts and giggles it was finally a wrap.

Here is a photo of our Christmas window decorations for the school competition.

The children enjoyed their Christmas dinner in their Year 2 bubble - it was very festive with every child wearing their Christmas jumpers and a hat made that morning in class.

The children have been busy making some cards and calendars as gifts for their loved ones. We continued with the snowman theme started in Science for our cards and reinforced our learning about the seasons for our calendars. We hope our families appreciate our efforts.

The children learned all about the Christmas traditions in Mexico as part of Christmas Around the World Day. They compared Christmas in Mexico and the UK and made some pinatas and a poinsettia wreath.

The children had a visit from Santa, some elves and two reindeer. They even got to sit in Santa's sleigh - what a magical experience. One we are sure they will never forget.

The visit from Santa and the reindeer was followed by an afternoon making reindeer food and partying.

Merry Christmas from everyone in Class 2GC.
