February - Fantastic Fun Learning!

4RD has been incredibly busy during February. We had plenty of fun during our learning before half term and Miss Dolman is confident that it will continue up to Easter!

English

While we are still reading our Greek-themed text, Who Let the Gods Out, there has been a huge focus on proof-reading during our lessons and we are slowly building up to writing our own myth! The children have worked together during a shared write and created a superb setting description! Following this, the independent learning they produced was fantastic. Plenty of fab tokens were given and lots of Marvellous Me messages were sent home!

As we move into March, the children will be completing their own myths and starting to think about writing their own fantasy story that includes a mythological creature. Miss Dolman has no doubt that the next piece of writing will be just as good, if not better, than their myths!

"The galaxy surrounded him as the omnipresent beauty dominated his eyes. He felt every spark twinkle with the stars..."

The dark, gloomy, blueberry sky glimmered around the earth. As the temple stood proudly, the statue watched the pearl carefully..."

"Whilst the ice man was working, he had to go to the most abandoned place in the world...the haunted house. When he arrived, he heard the door slowly closing itself. The ice man looked around but all he saw was nothing, just darkness. His body was shaking..."

Maths

Oh my goodness. 4RD have been working so incredibly hard to improve their multiplication and division during February. Not only are children becoming more confident with their times tables up to 12, they are now growing in confidence with multiplying and dividing two or three-digit numbers. The bus stop method is a favourite in the classroom!

Science

We have continued learning about different living things and their habitats. After identifying the five main groups that animals are classed into, the children learned about the environmental issues that can affect animals. Some children were extremely touched when they learned about how some animals are endangered of becoming extinct. In small groups, the children researched different endangered animals and presented their findings to the rest of the class, giving up tips and advice on how we can help prevent these animals from disappearing from our planet forever.

Creative Curriculum

4RD have continued learning about Ancient Greece. Following on from our debate to decide which city-state was better between Sparta and Athens, the children have written their own balanced arguments. It has not been decided yet but the best piece of writing will earn the whole team (either Sparta or Athens) a treat, with an extra prize for the individual winner!

 French and RE Week

Bonjour!

The children have been working hard in their French to remember all the numbers from 1-30 in French. It hasn’t been easy but the children are doing very well with their pronunciation and their memory.

RE What fantastic RE learning 4RD have done! The children were learning about Jewish Passover and what classifies as Kosher. The whole class became really engaged with the learning and showed some fantastic ideas when they created their own kosher menus for a Jewish gathering. Click on the link to hear a simple song about how to know if it's kosher. The children loved it!
