January Learning In Action

Art and D&T

6RS have been busy sketching, painting and sewing seaweed for the school ‘Under the Sea’ display this month!

Ethan said “Earlier on this month we sketched our underwater scenery first and then used chalk to add colour and depth. We then used water colours to create the scene. After this, we made felt using fleece. Although it was our first time at making felt, we used our growth mind set and never gave up”.

Tanveer added “This month has been amazing! Art this month was extraordinary! Using fleece, we created felt and then decorated it using sequins and buttons.”

look at how AMAZING it turned out…

Maths

Our focus this month has been Arithmetic, Fractions, Decimals and Percentages

We have also started Timestable Rockstars!

“ It is so enjoyable to play and helps me a lot to learn my times tables, “ said Darian.

Evelina added “ Timestable Rockstars is amazing. Although we are playing a game, we are learning at the same time!”

Drama and PSHE

ALL RISE…

Year 6 turned into a Magistrates Court this month with everybody taking part in a mock trial.

After learning about the law from real Magistrates, we then had the chance to act out a real court case!

‘Jamie West’ was on trial for theft and after hearing all the facts from witnesses and being interviewed by the Prosecutor and Defence, we had to decide whether he was guilty or not guilty based on the evidence.

Court Reporters also had to write about the proceedings and the

Three Magistrates then decided the verdict.

“It was great experience because we got to learn about what happens in a courtroom. Furthermore, we learnt of the consequences for crime” said Nicole.

“It felt really realistic as we got to dress up and play different roles. We all got to decide if the defendant was innocent or guilty.”

Double, double toil and trouble…

This month we are learning the story, ‘Macbeth.’ We have been reading the story as a class and writing in role as characters from the play. So far we have written letters, diary entries and newspaper reports.

Creative Curriculum

Vicious Vikings – This term we have begun our topic on Vikings!

In our Computing lessons we have used Purple Mash to compare the different foods that Vikings ate in comparison to what we eat now. In art, we have created a long ship and used three different mediums to colour it. We also made Viking Helmets and swords. For Geography we have learned the difference between human and physical features of different places in the UK. We are also going to look at how this has changed since the Anglo Saxon times.
