Jubilant June!

Year 5KW have had a great month with trips, debates, film making and battle cry's!

The children have worked in groups to summaries the learning they have been doing into each subject area.

English

In English we have been reading the text Journey to Jo'burg by Beverley Naidoo.

This is a story about a little girl called Dineo and her family and the struggles they face. We have enjoyed debating about how Mma should or shouldn't have take more of a stand against the injustice she faced on the journey to Johannesburg.

We have also enjoyed acting out key parts of the story and creating play-scripts linked to the text.

Simran stated

Making a play script about the story helped me to understand the characters in more detail and think about the emotions they were going through.

Creative Curriculum

Our 'Creative Curriculum' has all been linked to 'Anglo Saxons,' we have learnt about how they traded, defended their land and fought against other tribes.

The overwhelming favourite activity of 5KW, has to be making I-movie films of an Anglo Saxon battle. The children choreographed their battle, made shields and weapons as props and wrote play scripts for their characters this all resulted in their 'BATLLE' being filmed, edited and published.

There are definitely some budding directors in this class. Watch out Steven Spielberg 5KW are hot on your tails....

Maths

In Maths we have been learning about how to convert measurements such as mm and cm. We used this knowledge when designing and making our Anglo-Saxon armour, shields and weapons. Having a good understanding of measurement helped us to ensure that the armoury was made to size and looked just perfect for the I-movie movies we made.

WOW Week

During our WOW week we visited Compton Verney and took part in forest school activities, linked to settlements. We also cooked bread on a campfire, made bubbles using string and camped over night in the school grounds! FEW!!!!!
