March in Little Ribbons
World Book Day
We had a great start to March with World Book Day. It was so lovely to see children coming in with their costumes or pyjamas on. The teachers enjoyed being in theirs as well :)
Click on this link to find some great ideas on how to share stories with your child from the World Book Day website
Who can remember what friend wore
The Very Hungry Caterpillar outfit?
Who wore an Elsa costume?
We shared lots of stories....
Revisited our favourites...
Found a love for new books...
Book of the week
We all enjoyed reading The Very Hungry Caterpillar. We read it everyday for a whole week! After a couple of days we started to join in with Mrs Coleman and had a go at counting all the fruit!
What did the Caterpillar turn into?
This was also part of our 'Hook for Learning' where there were other activities out to engage the children, based on the story.
Take a look..
We explored and experimented; mixing colours and spreading the paint onto cling film with paint brushes. There were pencil control sheets and pictures underneath for us to follow.
Pirate Pete's Potty
Lots of children have started to toilet train in Little Ribbons; so to help support this we had a book of the week about Pirate Pete who was also learning how to use a potty!
What should we do after using the potty or toilet?
…..That's right "WASH OUR HANDS!" We all like to shout
What do we wash our hands with?
"SOAP!"
Encouraging Independence
We are really trying hard to encourage lots of independence each day, including:
- putting on our own coat (as a challenge doing up the zip)
- wiping our noses
- helping with snack
- selecting our own resources and activities
*Challenge for encouraging independence at home*
Can you be like the Little Princess and...
-Dress yourself?
-Brush your teeth?
-Help an adult to make lunch?
-Set the table?
Just remember you can always ask for help, but just give it a little try first :)
Dinosaurs
Dinosaurs are always a HUGE interest of lots of Little Ribbons children. So when Miss Bullingham made green playdough we were super excited when we got to stomp the dinosaurs through it to make prints!
This helped us strengthen the muscles in our fingers, as we pressed the dinosaurs into the play dough and pulled them back out again.
Mrs Coleman hopes to be writing a new blog very soon, when we all return to Little Ribbons!
Take care everyone and in the mean time please take a look at our home learning page, that will be updated regularly with ideas to do at home.
